Do these Country folk sound anything like the Hillbilly/Redneck stereotype?

Welcome to Ky. I suggest if you're writing a book though, that you do extensive research on coal mining, in particular, coal slurry and what it does genetically when it gets into the groundwater. You know, that those folk drink and farm in. Have fun with that. Then don't use us for your city-folk puppetry anymore. It isn't the people's fault (for the most part) that they are the way they are. Now, if you were to write about simple folk who overcame big business like, say, Blue Diamond- I'd read the hell out of that. If you're not a redneck, don't write this. It's like Squidbillies. It's funny if you live in it. It's racist if you don't. Did you know that HillBilly is a racist word? It's used to describe the mixture of the woodlands native tribes (Hill people) with the Irish (Billy, William, a common Irish name). That's our word, and it's just as offensive when spoken by an outsider as any other racist slur.
