How to stop an asteriod?

i have to help a friend film a movie for a project of hers and the subject was theres an asteriod coming towards earth how to stop it. what would you do to destroy an asteroid and save earth? her idea was just to get everyone to run to the west but i told her the oceans would stop that from happening lol
